These are the emails I sent on the day Phil had his collapse.
Phil collapsed this morning and is being taken to kings hospital. Blood pressure and heart are normal. Stroke maybe.
Will keep you posted
Phil is coming back to normal a bit more. Enough to joke a bit. Just sitting here while they put him through a million tests. Next up is a brain scan. Mum is holding together.
Just suffering the boringness of sitting in A&E
Dozing away on a drip. His dementia nurse might pop in.
What happened was. . while showering he just went limp like a rag doll. Had an ‘accident’of the weewee kind then threw up. Was semi unconscious for about 15 minutes. We carried him to the bed and called ambulance.
His heart and blood pressure are fine just a bit dehydrated hence the drip.
He’s sleeping now when he’s not being grumpy.
Dad is definitely staying overnight. Not sure which ward. Emma, his dementia nurse, is trying to get him in her ward. Not sure if that will happen today. I think it’s unlikely that he will be home tomorrow. Just have to wait and see how much he recovers.
They are treating him for lung infection as well. It’s only minor but needs to be stamped on quickly
5pm and after 7 hours at hospital mum an I are home.
Phil is cheery in a kind of drugged up way, mum found it very disturbing. “That’s not my Phil”. It might be the drugs. The specialist seems to think it could have been a fit but he couldn’t rule out a stroke, not all strokes show up on a CT scan.
Esther’s coming round to Bethwin road and we will go visit Phil again. We still don’t know which ward he will be in.
Tomorrow the hospital will evaluate Phil to determine what needs to change in our care arrangements. Until then there’s not much else to say. have to wait and see.
Phil safely installed in a proper ward. RD Lawrence ward. Cheney wing. Kings College Hospital. Assessment tomorrow, I think there’s a reasonable chance he will be home tomorrow or the next day
Feels like the panic is receding a little.
The Jamaican guy opposite was cool as. “Yeah mon!” all the time. Nice guy, dragged a chair over and everything. Will call hospital tomorrow around 10am after they have had chance to do the rounds and find out what to do.
